We often get asked – what are employee benefits? Employee benefits, also known as perks or fringe benefits, are provided to employees over and above salaries and wages. These employee benefit packages may include overtime, medical insurance, vacation, profit sharing and retirement benefits, to name just a few.

Offering benefits to your employees is important because it shows them you are invested in not only their overall health, but their future. A solid employee benefits package can help to attract and retain talent. Benefits can help you differentiate your business from competitors.

Employee benefits can improve your company’s bottom line by engaging employees to participate in wellbeing programs. Healthier employees mean reduced healthcare costs for your organization. Employees with fewer health risks experience fewer sick days, fewer trips to the doctor, and spend more time working in your organization, bringing their best selves to work every day.

Part of the employment process are the benefits presented upon hiring.

It is imperative for the company to present benefits to the employee.

Here is a list of benefits the company offers to employees upon hiring and upon regularization:

  • Medical Insurance (HMO)
  • Educational Assistance Benefit
  • Salary Loan
  • Technical Certification Incentive Program
  • Learning and Development
  • Performance Bonus & Rewards
  • Company Social Activities (Team Building, Sports Fest...etc
  • Vacation Leaves
  • Sick Leaves
  • Bereavement Leaves with Cash Assistance
  • Company Loan
  • Educational Assistance Benefit

And here are the steps in obtaining these benefits from the company through the onboarding tracker:

  • Create ID for newly hires – the process of creating IDs is to forward the picture and employee information to the ID editor so he/she can prepare the ID soft copies. Once done, the onboarding officer sends a request to the  HR in-charge onsite to assist in printing the IDs into physical copies.

  • ID issuance – the onboarding officer coordinates with the FOM department to issue the ID to the employee. He/she asks assistance from someone on site. For the ID issuance, the department assigned to it is the FOM department. They are the ones who prints the IDs into physical copies. Just recently, this process has been turned over to the employee relations HR in-charge and is now therefore the one who will issue said ID

  • Issuance of HOIT lanyard and ID case – the onboarding officer coordinates with someone onsite to issue the following assets to the new hire. Along with the giving of the IDs, it is imperative for the FOM department to provide lanyards and ID cases for the employees to avoid it from getting lost.

  • ID delivered and received by employee for WFH set up – the onboarding officer then requests to have the ID delivered for WFH new employees by sending a company van booking request to IM.

  • Update asset tracker – the onboarding officer confirms with IT in charge if the asset inventory has been updated.

  • Create COE and send to employee – COEs are used nowadays for travel purposes. The onboarding officer requests for a COE for the new employee and send it to him/her when it is finished.

  • Enroll employee to HMO upon regularization – HMO means "Health Maintenance Organization." HMO plans offer a wide range of healthcare services through a network of providers who agree to supply services to members. With an HMO you'll likely have coverage for a broader range of preventive healthcare services than you would through another type of plan. Upon the 6th month of the employee, they are being enrolled by the onboarding officer to be able to avail the HMO.

  • Create action in strategy x for HMO in charge to schedule employee for HMO orientation with PhilCare (upon regularization) – PhilCare’s network of accredited provides nationwide gives members an advantage of experiencing the medical services enjoyed by the largest and best corporations in the country. You also get to maximize technology's benefits with the use of NFC- equipped card, smartphone-enabled applications and web-based database system. The onboarding officer is tasked to create an action in Strategy X to the HMO in charge to book an orientation with PhilCare for the HMO coverage when the employee reaches 6 months in the company.

  • Create 3 actions for TL/DH to conduct 1st, 3rd, and 5th employee performance evaluation – the onboarding officer creates 3 separate actions for each evaluation and the approver must be the employee relations/employee engagement HR officer. The employee evaluation form must be attached to each action and must be created prior to asking the EE/ER HR officer to store employee evaluation to employee 201 file.

  • Create an action assigned to the EE/ER HR officer to process regularization contract. Ensure onboarding HR officer is the approver – the step for processing regularization must be established in the subtask of this action. The due date of this action must be aligned with the date the 5th of the month.
